In 1928, Henry J. Gilliland, 14 (along with brothers, William Gilliland, 9, and Alfred Gilliland, 11), arrived at Fremantle, Australia, in a group of 34 children from the Child Emigration Society, 115, The Strand, London, England. He was placed in Haig Cottage with his two brothers at Fairbridge Farm School, Pinjarra, Australia.

Henry J. Gilliland died July 10, 1939, aged 25 years. He is buried at Fairbridge Cemetery. The cemetery is located a couple of kilometres past the farm and beyond the second gravel pit. Containing some 24 graves, this is a very secluded and peaceful resting place. The cemetery is well tended.
