In 1929, Horace W. J. Offen, 12 (along with sister, Mabel M. M. Offen, 9) arrived at Fremantle, Australia, in a group of 37 children from the Child Emigration Society, Strand, London, England. He was placed in Nelson Cottage at Fairbridge Farm School, Fremantle, Australia.

Horace W. J. Offen died on October 7, 1940, at the age of 23. He is buried at Fairbridge Cemetery. The cemetery is located a couple of kilometres past the farm and beyond the second gravel pit. Containing some 24 graves, this is a very secluded and peaceful resting place. The cemetery is well tended.
