International Sesquicentennial Tribute
2019 marks the 150th year since the first BHC arrived in Canada. The BHCARA and descendants reached out to hundreds of communities and venues across Canada, Scotland and England to participate in the Beacons of Light for BHC tribute by illuminating memorials, monuments, buildings or other areas with the colours of the BHCARA. The response was overwhelming with over 230 tributes paid to the BHC. Illuminations included the iconic Niagara Fall in Ontario, Toronto's CN Tower, The Northern Lights Display in Vancouver and St Andrews House - Head Quarters of the Scottish Government in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her Majesty the Queen has sent a letter of support for the work of BHCARA and our Beacon tribute. This symbolic gesture showed the world how proud we are of the resiliency of the BHC, Canada's nation builders, while paying tribute to those who died young.
